Apple Mac Repairs
We repair MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini and Mac Studio computers. Apple has changed how Macs are built several times since 2012, and each change altered what can be repaired, upgraded and recovered. Find the A-number printed on the underside and look up your Mac.
Which Mac you have decides the repair
Apple silicon, 2020 onward
Storage and memory are part of the logic board. There is nothing to upgrade and no drive to remove, so a dead Mac is repaired at board level, and that is also how its data is recovered.
Intel Macs with the T2 chip, 2018 to 2020
The SSD is soldered and encrypted by the T2 chip. Data can only be read with the original logic board working.
MacBook Pro and Air, 2016 to 2019
The butterfly keyboard fails from dust under the keys and is replaced with the top case and battery. 2016 and 2017 MacBook Pro models are also known for backlight cable wear.
Retina MacBooks, 2012 to 2015
Glued batteries and worn display coatings are the usual repairs. The SSD is a removable module, which keeps upgrades and data recovery simple.
iMac
The display is held on with adhesive from late 2012, so every internal repair starts by cutting it free. Replacing an ageing hard drive or Fusion Drive with an SSD is the most worthwhile upgrade.
Mac mini and Mac Studio
The power supply is internal, so a machine that is completely dead may not need a logic board at all.
Repairs we carry out
Screens, batteries, keyboards and trackpads, charging ports, liquid damage, logic board repair, macOS reinstallation and data migration. On Apple silicon and T2 Macs left unresponsive by a failed update, we can revive or restore the firmware from a second Mac.
What we cannot do
We cannot remove Activation Lock or a firmware password without proof that the Mac is yours. Activation Lock can only be lifted by Apple or by the account it is tied to.
Data recovery from a Mac
If you have a Time Machine or iCloud backup, tell us first; it may be the quickest route to your files. Otherwise see Mac data recovery.
