What you do in the first few minutes after a spill matters more than anything we do later. Liquid on its own rarely destroys a laptop. Electricity passing through the liquid does.
Straight away
- Switch it off. Hold the power button down until it goes dark.
- Unplug the charger and anything else connected.
- Do not switch it back on to see whether it still works.
- Do not use a hairdryer, and do not put it in rice. Neither removes what is already on the board.
- Bring it in as soon as you can.
What we do
We take the laptop apart, clean the board and the connectors, and replace the components that have corroded or shorted. The keyboard usually needs replacing as well, because liquid is trapped between its layers.
Why it cannot wait
A laptop that still works after a spill often fails days or weeks later. Tea, coffee, wine and soft drinks leave residue that keeps corroding the board after it has dried.
Price
Price confirmed before work starts. The final price depends on what the liquid reached, and we confirm it before any work starts. If the storage is soldered to the board, repeated attempts to power on put your files at risk too.
