If your VAIO SX14 has a broken screen, will not charge, runs hot or will not start, we can diagnose and repair it at our Bermondsey workshop. It is a 14-inch laptop from 2021. The SSD can be replaced but the memory is soldered, so storage is the only upgrade.

What we repair on the VAIO SX14
Screen replacement
Cracked, flickering or lined 14-inch screens are replaced with a matching panel. Where the picture comes and goes as the lid moves, we check the display cable and hinges first.

Charging port and power repair
Depending on the configuration this charges through a round socket, USB-C or both. We test the adapter, the port and the charging circuit to find which has failed.
SSD and storage upgrade
The VAIO SX14 takes an M.2 SSD. We clone the existing drive to a larger one so Windows, programs and files carry over unchanged.

Memory
Memory in the VAIO SX14 is soldered and cannot be upgraded. It is worth knowing this before paying anyone for a memory upgrade.
Windows repair and reinstall
The VAIO SX14 meets Microsoft’s Windows 11 requirements in most configurations. We upgrade from Windows 10, which reached end of support in October 2025, or reinstall Windows 11 cleanly with your files kept.
Battery replacement
A new internal battery is fitted and tested through a full charge and discharge. On a 2021 machine a worn battery is the likely cause of short runtime, and we measure its capacity before recommending anything else.

We also carry out keyboard and trackpad repair, motherboard repair, liquid damage repair, overheating and fan repair, hinge and casing repair, virus removal on the VAIO SX14, along with USB, HDMI and audio port repair, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth card replacement, webcam and speaker faults, BIOS password removal with proof of ownership and data transfer to a new machine.
Known issues with the VAIO range
- Sony stopped making VAIO laptops in 2014, so parts are refurbished or salvaged, and we check availability before quoting.
- Some VAIO Z and Pro models use unusual SSD formats, which matters for data recovery.
Data recovery from the VAIO SX14
The SSD in the VAIO SX14 can be removed and imaged on our own equipment, so files can usually be recovered even when the machine will not start. Recent Windows machines often have device encryption or BitLocker switched on. If so we will need the recovery key, which is normally saved in your Microsoft account.
Estimate the cost with our data recovery calculator, or read about recovering files after a ransomware attack.
Where the VAIO SX14 sits in the range
Its nearest relatives in the Sony VAIO range are the older Sony VAIO Fit SVF14 (2013). Memory differs: soldered on the VAIO SX14, SODIMM slots on the Sony VAIO Fit SVF14. Storage differs too: M.2 SSD, replaceable on the VAIO SX14, 2.5-inch SATA drive on the Sony VAIO Fit SVF14. It is the most recent 14-inch model of the range that we list.
Questions
Can the SSD or memory in the VAIO SX14 be upgraded?
The SSD can be replaced with a larger M.2 drive. Memory is soldered and cannot be upgraded.
My VAIO SX14 will not turn on. Is my data lost?
Usually not. The drive is separate from the fault in most cases, and we can remove it and copy your files even if the machine itself is not worth repairing.
Where do I find the model number on my laptop?
The model name or number is on the label on the underside or back of the machine. For this model, look for SX14.
Can the VAIO SX14 run Windows 11?
Yes, in most configurations.
