If your Dell Precision M6800 has a broken screen, will not charge, runs hot or will not start, we can diagnose and repair it at our Bermondsey workshop. The Dell Precision M6800 is a 2013 mobile workstation with a 17.3-inch screen. Both the drive and, on most configurations, the memory can be upgraded, which makes it a good candidate for a refresh.

Repairs we carry out on the Dell Precision M6800
Screen replacement
Cracked, flickering or lined 17.3-inch screens are replaced with a matching panel. Where the picture comes and goes as the lid moves, we check the display cable and hinges first.

Overheating and fan repair
A thermal service covers fresh compound on the processor and graphics chip, new thermal pads where needed and both fans cleaned. It is the usual cure for throttling and loud fans under load.
SSD and storage upgrade
The Dell Precision M6800 uses a 2.5-inch SATA drive. Replacing a hard drive with an SSD is the biggest speed improvement available for a machine of this age.

Memory upgrade
Most configurations of the Dell Precision M6800 have SODIMM memory slots, so memory can be increased. We check what is fitted and the maximum the board supports.
Graphics repair
The graphics chip is soldered to the board. Artefacts, crashes under load and a black screen with the fans running are diagnosed to the chip, its memory or its power stage, and repaired at board level where it is economical.
Windows repair and reinstall
This model does not meet Microsoft’s Windows 11 requirements, and Windows 10 reached end of support in October 2025. We can advise on the realistic options, including a lightweight Linux or ChromeOS Flex installation.
Battery replacement
Most configurations have a clip-in battery that can be swapped in seconds. We also test the charging circuit, because an old battery is not always the only fault. On a 2013 machine a worn battery is the likely cause of short runtime, and we measure its capacity before recommending anything else.

Charging port and power repair
A charger that only works at a certain angle means a worn charging socket. We replace it and test the charging circuit behind it.
We also carry out keyboard and trackpad repair, motherboard repair, liquid damage repair, hinge and casing repair, virus removal on the Dell Precision M6800, along with USB, HDMI and audio port repair, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth card replacement, webcam and speaker faults, BIOS password removal with proof of ownership and data transfer to a new machine.
What we see on the bench
- Mobile workstations run hot for long periods, so dried thermal compound and dust-clogged fans are behind many of the shutdowns and slowdowns we see.
- Many configurations have two or more drives, sometimes in RAID. Tell us if yours does before any storage work, because it changes how data is recovered.
- Graphics faults on these are board-level repairs: the professional graphics chip is soldered to the motherboard.
Data recovery from the Dell Precision M6800
The Dell Precision M6800 has a 2.5-inch drive that we remove and image on our own equipment. If the drive is clicking or was dropped, stop powering it on: each attempt can do more damage.

Where the Dell Precision M6800 sits in the range
Its nearest relatives in the Dell Precision mobile workstation range are the older Dell Precision M6700 (2012) and the newer Dell Precision 7710 (2016). Storage differs too: 2.5-inch SATA drive on the Dell Precision M6800, M.2 SSD, two slots on most configurations on the Dell Precision 7710.
Questions
Can the SSD or memory in the Dell Precision M6800 be upgraded?
The 2.5-inch drive can be replaced with an SSD. Memory is in slots on most configurations and can be increased.
My Dell Precision M6800 will not turn on. Is my data lost?
Usually not. The drive is separate from the fault in most cases, and we can remove it and copy your files even if the machine itself is not worth repairing.
Is a 2013 Dell Precision M6800 still worth repairing?
It depends on the fault. A battery, SSD or charging socket is usually worth doing. A major board repair on an older machine may cost more than the machine is worth, and if that is the case we will say so.
Where do I find the model number on my mobile workstation?
The model name is on the base label or palm rest. The 7-character Service Tag on the base identifies the exact build. For this model, look for M6800.
