If your Lenovo ThinkPad X250 has a broken screen, will not charge, runs hot or will not start, we can diagnose and repair it at our Bermondsey workshop. The Lenovo ThinkPad X250 is a 2015 laptop with a 12.5-inch screen, identified by machine types 20CL, 20CM. Both the drive and, on most configurations, the memory can be upgraded, which makes it a good candidate for a refresh.

Lenovo ThinkPad X250 repairs and upgrades
Screen replacement
Cracked, flickering or lined 12.5-inch screens are replaced with a matching panel. Where the picture comes and goes as the lid moves, we check the display cable and hinges first.

SSD and storage upgrade
The Lenovo ThinkPad X250 uses a 2.5-inch SATA drive. Replacing a hard drive with an SSD is the biggest speed improvement available for a machine of this age.

Memory upgrade
Most configurations of the Lenovo ThinkPad X250 have SODIMM memory slots, so memory can be increased. We check what is fitted and the maximum the board supports.
Windows repair and reinstall
This model does not meet Microsoft’s Windows 11 requirements, and Windows 10 reached end of support in October 2025. We can advise on the realistic options, including a lightweight Linux or ChromeOS Flex installation.
Battery replacement
Most configurations have a clip-in battery that can be swapped in seconds. We also test the charging circuit, because an old battery is not always the only fault. At this age, short runtime and sudden shutdowns usually point to a worn battery and not a board fault.

Keyboard and trackpad repair
The keyboard is a separate part on most ThinkPads and is replaced without disturbing the rest of the machine. Trackpad and TrackPoint buttons are replaced the same way.
Charging port and power repair
A charger that only works at a certain angle means a worn charging socket. We replace it and test the charging circuit behind it.
We also carry out motherboard repair, liquid damage repair, overheating and fan repair, hinge and casing repair, virus removal on the Lenovo ThinkPad X250, along with USB, HDMI and audio port repair, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth card replacement, webcam and speaker faults, BIOS password removal with proof of ownership and data transfer to a new machine.
Notes from the workshop
- A forgotten supervisor password is stored in a security chip and cannot be reset from software.
- Memory is soldered on the X1 and recent X-series machines, so it is fixed at purchase.
- USB-C charging port wear is the board repair we see most on these.
Data recovery from the Lenovo ThinkPad X250
The Lenovo ThinkPad X250 has a 2.5-inch drive that we remove and image on our own equipment. If the drive is clicking or was dropped, stop powering it on: each attempt can do more damage.
Estimate the cost with our data recovery calculator, or read about recovering files after a ransomware attack.
Where the Lenovo ThinkPad X250 sits in the range
Its nearest relatives in the Lenovo ThinkPad X Series and X1 range are the older Lenovo ThinkPad X240 (2013) and the newer Lenovo ThinkPad X260 (2016).
Questions
Can the SSD or memory in the Lenovo ThinkPad X250 be upgraded?
The 2.5-inch drive can be replaced with an SSD. Memory is in slots on most configurations and can be increased.
My Lenovo ThinkPad X250 will not turn on. Is my data lost?
Usually not. The drive is separate from the fault in most cases, and we can remove it and copy your files even if the machine itself is not worth repairing.
Can the Lenovo ThinkPad X250 run Windows 11?
Not officially. It does not meet Microsoft's processor and security requirements.
How do I get my Lenovo ThinkPad X250 to you?
Bring it to our workshop at Unit 1 The Willows, 80 Willow Walk, London SE1 5SY, or call 020 7237 6805 to ask about courier collection. We confirm the price before any work starts.
