We repair and upgrade the Mac Pro (2019) at our workshop in Bermondsey, from power and start-up faults to storage upgrades and data recovery. It is a workstation from 2019, identified by model number A1991. Storage is fixed to the board, which matters most if it ever needs data recovery.

Mac Pro repairs and upgrades
Power supply repair
We test and replace failed power supplies. Many branded desktops use a manufacturer-specific unit, which we match to the exact chassis.
macOS reinstall and repair
We reinstall macOS, migrate data, and can revive or restore the firmware in DFU mode from a second Mac when an update has left the machine unresponsive.
Graphics repair
We diagnose and replace failed graphics cards, and check that the power supply and case can take the card you want before an upgrade.
Storage
Storage on the Mac Pro is soldered and cannot be upgraded. We can help with external storage, clearing space, or moving to a new machine.
Memory upgrade
The Mac Pro uses standard desktop memory. We check the board’s limits and fit matched modules.
Overheating and fan repair
We clear dust from heatsinks, fans and filters, replace failed fans and renew thermal compound. On liquid-cooled systems we test the pump.
We also carry out logic board repair, macOS reinstallation on the Mac Pro, along with no-picture and no-boot diagnosis, port repair, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth card replacement and data transfer to a new PC.
Notes from the workshop
- Storage modules in the Mac Studio and 2019 Mac Pro are tied to the machine’s security chip and cannot simply be read in another computer.
- The 2009 to 2012 tower is fully modular, with standard drive bays and memory slots, and is still worth upgrading for some workloads.
Data recovery from the Mac Pro
The SSD in the Mac Pro is soldered and hardware-encrypted, so there is no drive to remove. If the Mac is dead, data recovery means repairing the logic board far enough to start it and copy the data off. If you have a Time Machine or iCloud backup, tell us, as that may be the quicker route.
Estimate the cost with our data recovery calculator, or read about recovering files after a ransomware attack.
Where the Mac Pro sits in the range
Its nearest relatives in the Mac Studio and Mac Pro range are the older Mac Pro cylinder (2013) and the newer Mac Studio M1 Max/Ultra (2022). Memory differs: DIMM slots on the Mac Pro, unified memory, part of the chip on the Mac Studio M1 Max/Ultra. Storage differs too: soldered to the board on the Mac Pro, removable Apple-format SSD on the Mac Pro cylinder.
Questions
Can the SSD or memory in the Mac Pro be upgraded?
The storage is soldered and cannot be upgraded. Memory uses standard slots and can be increased.
My Mac Pro will not turn on. Is my data lost?
Not necessarily, but the storage is on the main board, so the board has to be repaired far enough to read it. Do not keep trying to power it on, and tell us about any backups you have.
How much does it cost to repair a Mac Pro?
Price confirmed before work starts. The exact figure depends on the part your machine needs, and we confirm it before any work starts.
Is a 2019 Mac Pro still worth repairing?
It depends on the fault. A battery, SSD or charging socket is usually worth doing. A major board repair on an older machine may cost more than the machine is worth, and if that is the case we will say so.
