What goes wrong with Seagate drives
- The 3TB ST3000DM001 has one of the worst failure records of any modern hard drive. If yours still works, copy it now.
- The thin 2.5-inch drives used in Seagate portable drives since about 2016 (ST1000LM035, ST2000LM007, ST2000LM015 and the 4TB and 5TB ST4000LM024 and ST5000LM000) are fragile after knocks and are prone to firmware faults that make the drive appear empty or undetected.
- Those same portable drives use shingled recording, so deleted files can be cleared by the drive itself. Stop using the drive as soon as you notice files missing.
What it costs
From £99 + VAT. The price depends on what has gone wrong far more than on how much data there is. Use the data recovery calculator for an estimate. The initial consultation is free, and the price is confirmed before recovery starts.
Questions
Can you recover a Seagate drive that is no longer detected?
Often, yes. A drive that is not detected usually has an electronic or firmware fault, and the data behind it is intact. We confirm what is recoverable, and the price, before recovery starts.
Does the Seagate warranty cover data recovery?
Usually not. Most warranties replace the drive without recovering what was on it, and the faulty drive is not returned. Some drives are sold with a data recovery plan, so check yours. Either way, recover the data before sending a drive back.
How do I get it to you?
Bring it to Unit 1 The Willows, 80 Willow Walk, London SE1 5SY, or call 020 7237 6805 to arrange courier collection.
