What goes wrong with Samsung drives
- 870 EVO drives made in early 2021 have been widely reported to develop bad sectors and failing health counters. Back up and check for a firmware update if you have one.
- 980 PRO drives on early firmware could lock themselves into read-only mode, and 990 PRO drives on early firmware showed rapidly falling health readings. Both were addressed by firmware updates, but drives already affected stay affected.
- T7 Touch and other portable SSDs with password protection encrypt the data. We need the password to unlock it after recovery.
- On any SSD, deleted files are usually cleared by the drive within minutes, so deleted-file recovery succeeds far less often than on a hard drive.
What it costs
From £99 + VAT. The price depends on what has gone wrong far more than on how much data there is. Use the data recovery calculator for an estimate. The initial consultation is free, and the price is confirmed before recovery starts.
Questions
Can you recover a Samsung drive that is no longer detected?
Often, yes. A drive that is not detected usually has an electronic or firmware fault, and the data behind it is intact. We confirm what is recoverable, and the price, before recovery starts.
Does the Samsung warranty cover data recovery?
Usually not. Most warranties replace the drive without recovering what was on it, and the faulty drive is not returned. Some drives are sold with a data recovery plan, so check yours. Either way, recover the data before sending a drive back.
How do I get it to you?
Bring it to Unit 1 The Willows, 80 Willow Walk, London SE1 5SY, or call 020 7237 6805 to arrange courier collection.
