What goes wrong with Buffalo drives
- LinkStation and TeraStation units store their operating system on the data drives, so a firmware failure shows as a flashing error light and an unreachable share while the files themselves are intact.
- Volumes are usually XFS on Linux software RAID. Check whether a two-bay unit was set to RAID 0 or RAID 1 before assuming there is a mirror.

Can you recover a Buffalo drive that is no longer detected?
Often, yes. A drive that is not detected usually has an electronic or firmware fault, and the data behind it is intact. We confirm what is recoverable, and the price, before recovery starts.
Does the Buffalo warranty cover data recovery?
Usually not. Most warranties replace the drive without recovering what was on it, and the faulty drive is not returned. Some drives are sold with a data recovery plan, so check yours. Either way, recover the data before sending a drive back.
